About Peachtree Airwaves

Peachtree Airwaves covers the independent side of Atlanta radio and music, the part of the scene that rarely gets the same attention as bigger commercial outlets.

Why this site exists

Independent radio in Atlanta operates on a completely different model than a large commercial station, from how it funds itself to how it builds and keeps an audience, and it rarely gets covered on its own terms.

This site exists to give that world dedicated coverage: the stations themselves, the hosts building shows around their own taste, the local artists getting airtime here first, and the events that grow out of all of it.

A lot of what makes this scene interesting gets lost when it is only mentioned as a footnote in broader Atlanta music coverage, so the goal here is to give it the dedicated attention it does not usually get elsewhere.

That footnote treatment is part of why so many genuinely good local stations and artists stay under the radar longer than they should, even within Atlanta itself.

What we cover

Coverage spans independent station spotlights, local music reviews, features on the hosts and talent behind these shows, and the nightlife and events connected to this scene across specific Atlanta neighborhoods.

The through-line across all of it is a focus on independent, community-driven radio and music, rather than the major commercial stations and artists who already get plenty of attention elsewhere.

How we approach independent radio

Coverage here treats independent radio as a genuine part of Atlanta's music culture, not a lesser version of commercial radio, and tries to reflect the specific point of view that makes each station and host worth paying attention to.

That means spending time with the actual hosts and artists involved rather than covering the scene from a distance, since the personal relationships in this world are a big part of what makes it work.

This approach takes more time than aggregating press releases or event listings, but it is the only way to actually capture what makes a specific station or host worth a listener's attention in the first place. It also means coverage sometimes moves slower than a purely reactive news outlet, in exchange for depth.
